Cabin Categories

Category A cabin on M/S Galileo - Upper Deck with window

Category A — Upper Deck (1 Porthole)

The 9 Category A cabins are located on the Upper Deck and have one large porthole. Choose from 1 double or 2 lower beds. Triple occupancy available. Approximately 130–140 square feet (12–13 sq meters).

Advantages: Slightly larger cabins, large porthole with natural light, direct access to the 360-degree observation deck, close to the outdoor lounge on the stern, quieter (farther from engines and generators).

Considerations: Other passengers walk past your cabin on the exterior deck. Some guests have noted Cat A cabins can feel slightly darker than lower deck cabins despite the window.

Category B cabin on M/S Galileo - Lower Deck with portholes

Category B — Lower Deck (2 Smaller Portholes)

The Category B cabins are located on the Lower Deck and have two smaller portholes. Choose from 1 double or 2 lower beds (flex configuration). Approximately 130–151 square feet (12–14 sq meters).

Advantages: Less motion felt in rougher seas — ideal if you are prone to motion sickness. The lower deck tends to feel more stable. Two portholes can let in good light.

Considerations: Closer to the engines and generators, which can be noisier. No direct exterior deck access from the cabin.

Tips for Choosing Your Cabin

Most all the cabins (although they vary slightly in size) are quite similar. One comment noted by guests in the Upper Deck Category A cabins was that they felt slightly darker than the lower deck cabins.

If you are prone to motion sickness, the lower cabins (Category B) are going to be the better bet to help in reducing feelings of motion, as the lower deck feels less rocky when transiting in rougher seas.

Cabins on the Upper Deck are open to the exterior of the ship. While this does mean other passengers will walk back and forth right past your room, this puts you right in the action with a 360-degree observation deck around the ship and easy access to the outdoor lounge on the stern. Cabins on the Upper Deck are also quieter than Lower Deck cabins because they are farther away from the engines and generators.
