Joshua T. Katz
Senior Fellow, American Enterprise Institute
A linguist by training, with degrees from Yale, Oxford, and Harvard, Joshua T. Katz was once the Cotsen Professor in the Humanities and a professor of Classics at Princeton University; since 2022, he has been a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (Washington, D.C.), where he focuses on higher education, language and culture, the classical tradition, and the humanities in the broadest sense. Probably the only comparative philologist employed at a think tank anywhere, Katz is the author of hundreds of articles on the languages, literatures, and cultures of the ancient, medieval, and modern world. Among his major interests are the reconstruction of Proto-Indo-European, Archaic Greek poetry, the history and practice of wordplay, and etymology. Besides many national and international awards for his scholarship and his teaching, he has won a slew of prizes in recent years for his defense of free speech and academic freedom.
